I have no sound to alert me when texts come in. Why?

The text message comes through and the notification shows on screen, but no tone is heard. I have enabled the correct buttons under notifications and the volume is okay. I can manually sound the tone, so it not that. Anyone else having this problem?

First, check to make sure these steps are done:

Use notifications on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

If you hear no sound or distorted sound from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch speaker - Apple Support
