Why does Final Cut keep disappearing from my Apps folder?

Over and over again, FCP is just gone from my app folder. Compressor is still there, but FCP has disappeared. And since I have an older Mac that can only run Mac OS 10.15, Apple has blocked us older Mac users from restoring our purchase from the App Store. So, Apple is screwing me here. What gives?

You have a system problem. Please post an EtreCheck report https://etrecheck.com giving the application Full Disk Access in Privacy System Preferences. Copy the report and use the Add Text button to paste the result into reply box.

Apple does not prevent you downloading previously purchased versions. Log in with the Apple ID used to buy the application and go to your Purchased page not the Final Cut Pro page.

Make a backup that includes the application using Time Machine or other software, or just back it up into a jump drive.

Since 10.1... wow!

No wonder there is so much cruft in this system.

You have lots of problematic things in there - remnants from Norton, Avast...

plus many that are too old and do not work, like flash, silverlight....

You have a lot of "Startup Items" - which are not something to be used since Yosemite

You have Chrome - this alone is enough to "kill" FCP.

See https://chromeisbad.com for an explanation

You could follow the instructions in the above site for removing Chrome and its evil keystone helpers, but your hole system - pardon my bluntness - is a mess.

It is high time you do a clean sweep.

Make full backups, preferably two.

Create a Catalina installer on a usb thumb drive.

Boot from the installer, completely erase the internal drive (not just the volumes in it, the full drive).

Install a clean system, then migrate ONLY the user accounts.

Install any applications that you do need.

Thank you for EtreCheck! I'm running it on another computer just now, so I'll report it later in this thread.

And thank you for reminding me of the 'Purchased' page! I go there so rarely I had completely forgotten about it!

I have the app on my laptop, so I've already dropped that into a folder and 'archived' it, then copied that zip file to the computer that had lost the app. Works fine now.
