My iPhone SE 2020 2nd Generation has an Invalid Apple ID

Hello all,

How do I erase or factory reset an old iPhone with an Invalid Apple ID so I can send it back to apple to be recycled? The time has passed for a trade-in I believe.

Without a valid Apple ID or iCloud sign-in, the system won't let me reset the password and I cannot sign in to iCloud with the invalid ID. Help!!! I want to erase the phone. I wish I could remember all the things you are never to do to a phone because it will erase the phone, does anyone know? TIA
