Do Not Disturb button on M1 Macbook Pro does not display the message saying it's on or off

When I press the dedicated Do Not Disturb button on my keyboard or turn it on in settings it doesn't give me this message on the right corner that says whether it is on or off.

It's very easy to accidentally turn it on and it can be frustrating to have it on without me knowing. However I have it set to share across devices and it DOES show when I turn it on or off from my iPhone. And the popup does show on my iPhone if I change it there or on my Macbook.

MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 12.3

I see it in the menubar—

Try the Option click on the Date & Time on the far right side of the menu bar.

Turn a Focus on or off on Mac - Apple Support

Change Dock & Menu Bar preferences on Mac - Apple Support

I can say there does seems to be some inconsistency in behavior here... Option click cf. System preferences behavior and so on.
