Incorrect space calculation

Hi, my Mac is showing incorrect calculations of my available space. If I add 11,34GB+88GB+1,44GB (86,39 are cinluded in the 88GB) + 15,19GB is a total of 115,97GB used. My disk: 245,11GB - 115,97GB: I should have 129,14GB free space insted of 118GB. Why im missing about 10GB of storage?

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 12.3

Your screenshot is of the Mac's "Manage Storage" app. It is not a comprehensive picture of the space used on your drive.

To get a more accurate picture of overall disk usage, do one of the following:

  • Select the drive icon, then do GetInfo (CMD-I or File>GetInfo). Look at the reported capacity, available & used space.
  • Open Disk Utility. In the left pane, select "Container disk1." Look at the capacity, free & used space.

Even then, there may be a difference between reported free space and calculated free space (capacity minus used space). This is due to APFS and limitations in the way it reports free space. Among other things, there are some small hidden volumes on the system drive ... the "missing" 10GB could very well be the VM (virtual memory) volume.

The list of items taking up disk space you showed an image of is not complete. Those are for recommendations on how to manage storage, but some hidden system-related files are not shown there, since those files cannot be disposed of. Tools like Daisy Disk will show you exactly where those files are and what they are, but unless they are snapshots, they typically cannot be deleted. So the missing 10 GB is most likely hidden system-related files or storage than in many cases is not user adjustable. However the snapshots can be deleted, Daisy Disk provides an option to do that. Daisy Disk is a program that must be purchased, but there are other tools that may be free that can also be used for this.

Compare the below picture of my M1 Mac Mini to yours. What is missing from yours is the portion of the Operating System which is not reported in your picture

That is where the Sealed and Read Only Volume of the Operating System Resides and Boots from.

That Volume, in my picture, accounts from a Reported 8.24 GB of Space and may be directly related to your 10 GB not accounted for.
