Studio Display Brightness Adjustment

I just installed my Studio Display and M1 Studio. In the Display option, the Apple default let me adjust the brightness. I edit photos so chose the Photography display and WOW it is too bright. I went to adjust it and it is not possible. My keyboard brightness controls don't work either. I need to lower the brightness on the Photography option.

Thank you,

Gloria

I have a new Mac Studio (2022) with the Apple M1 Ultra chip. I use two Studio Displays. Today, our power went off and the UPS tripped shutting down before I could take action. When I got it reset, one of my two Studio Displays was much dimmer than the other. I tried changing Thunderbolt cables, changing ports, restarting multiple times, using settings but nothing worked.

I called Apple support. The first person was helpful, but didn't resolve the problem. They got Derrick from tech support on. He checked in the System Report and didn't see a firmware number for one of the Studio Displays. THE FIX:

  1. Unplug the Thunderbolt (or USB-C) cable.
  2. Unplug power for the Studio Display monitor that wasn't working correctly. Leave unplugged for at least a full 2 minutes.
  3. Reconnect the Thunderbolt cable.
  4. Power on the Studio Display.

The entire time, my Mac Studio was left running. It worked and both monitors are functioning normally. The System Report shows a correct 15.5 (build 19F77) firmware for both monitors again.

ALL IS GOOD and Apple Support did an outstanding job.

UPDATE!

I am in shock! After chatting with two Apple Support representatives and they making me repeat and do tests, then then refer me to phone calls with Apple Advisors. Long story short, after many tries to "fix" the problem, the last Advisor asked me to perform a Recovery of my brand new Studio. I had to erase a external hard drive to make a quick backup. She sent me instructions on how to do it and then said, if the problem was not resolved, to call back. I did the Restore :-( and the "problem" persisted. I was too tired to call back today and decided to look in other forums to see, if someone else had my problem and I found another person asking the same question, "Why can't I adjust the Brightness only in the default Preset?". Someone replied that it IS SUPPOSED TO BE LIKE THAT and to watch this video I am attaching. I can't believe this.

I don't think it's the people I spoke to fault. Obviously they have not been taught about this. Four Apple Advisors trying to see why I could not adjust the brightness.

Hope this helps others!

Yes, they do work with the Default Apple Display Settings, but not with the Photography option. I just updated the Display and I find that it is not as bright as before in the Photography display, but I still have to figure out why I lose the control of the Brightness. It's not available in my Mac keyboard F1, F2 keys or in the Control Center where I can adjust Sound, etc. When I press the F1 and F2 keys, I get a "lock" with the Brightness icon it brings up.

Hi,

It's not available in my Mac keyboard F1, F2 keys or in the Control Center where I can adjust Sound, etc. When I press the F1 and F2 keys, I get a "lock" with the Brightness icon it brings up. I do like the crisp text and the photos look great, but I will have to calibrate. Now, if only I could use the Brightness button!

Thank you,
