iMac 24 inch international travel

It is too big to carry on so if you are going to take it with you on the airplane you will need to check it as baggage. I would strongly recommend using the original box and then taking that box to your local shipping store and have them double box it with additional padding. I would also consider shipping it rather than checking it into the airlines baggage.

You can also search for travel containers for a 24", I have not researched any but they may exist as they did for 21.5 & 27" iMacs.

Pack it back up in the original packaging. Bubble wrap that and put it inside a hard case suitcase, or ship it instead of trying to check it as baggage.

Another thought is PLEASE backup the computer using Time Machine and bring the TM drive with you as carryon baggage. In the event the computer is damaged or lost your backup is what you will need to safeguard your data.

If you do check it, look to see if there is any additional insurance you can buy. I think that carriers are limited to about $600. (I think. It is a long time since I read all that stuff about the warsaw convention on the back of my red-carbon tickets.)

If you can't get additional insurance, consider shipping instead.
