I just started using my macbook pro 14.
When using whatsapp I don't get notifications. I enabled notifications in the app settings.
In macbook system preferences -> notifications&focus whatsapp is not even amongst the apps which is weird because I figured it should be.
I tried to download whatsapp through web and through app store , outcome is still the same.

Not all apps are optimized for macOS notifications
I understand what you say, but at the same the first picture of whastapp desktop in the appstore is how nicely one gets a banner notification when using the app.
So my conclusion is that is more of a bug than a not implemented feature.
I have the exact same problem. I've been using Whatsapp on mac for the past 3 years, everything worked fine but after the update whatsapp notifications seemed to have disappear from system preferences.
Me too! I un-install and re-install back the Whatsapp app and I still don't receive any pop up notification message. But only when Whatsapp calls it does give pop up notification! I think it's a bug. My system preferences under notifications, Whatsapp app is not appearing there too!
If you are getting notification on your Mac from all other sources, except Whatsapp, it's not an Apple issue. It is a Whatsapp issue. Apple doesn't own Whatsapp. Meta (Facebook) owns Whatsapp and they need to fix whatever their issue is.
As per my understanding, this has started since the new MacOS update. Now its either that the app is not able to get the access to the notification panel or there is some bug in the new OS update. I hope they fix it soon tho. hampering the workflow a lot.
I also used to get banner notifications, but rcently was not getting the same, I thought to reinstall it....deleted the previous app and same thing happened, it got deleted from system preferences also...
Ongoing issues for me.
No notifications (sound or banners); cannot recognise microphone; app does not appear in System Preferences > Notifications & Focus.

same, installed on new m1 pro and no notifications
but this worked on the same mac and on the same OS system, it just stopped working out of nowhere, and it doesn't show up in the system notification options.

Same happening here. No popup notifications, no WhatsApp under System Preferencies > Notification. Already tried reinstalling macOS (Keeping data) and the problem persists.
