image capture no longer works on monterrey

After purchasing a new M1 iMac for my wife, the Image Capture utility no longer works with our scanner. Is this an M1 problem or a Monterrey problem and is there a fix?

It's not Apple that makes the drivers, it is the scanner manufacturers. If IC no longer works, please try VueScan (www.hamrick.com) and see if the free trial version works, which it likely does. It is not free however it will last and is less than a new scanner.

We are using a Canon MG5330 all-in-one. It works great with my 2018 iMac running Big Sur. When my wife went to the M1 Chip iMac (2021 build) and Monterrey, Image Capture no longer works for her. For that reason, I have hesitated in moving to Monterrey on my machine.

What Scanner or All-in-One do you have?

Try clicking on the arrow in the Image Capture Devices sidebar.

My wife’s machine (M1 iMac, Monterrey OS) can print to the Canon MG5320, but cannot use the scanner because Image Capture will no longer show the scan option in the menu.

Yes - that’s exactly what we’ve done. The paid version is pretty good with its capabilities. Printer still works great so I’ll keep it until it dies. Thanks!
