Storage full of “other.” I’ve deleted almost everything else.

Running 14.7.1 on iPhone 7. My storage is full, about 30-40% is “other.” I have followed the Manage Storage suggestions: I’ve removed most apps, all music, put photos on the cloud, deleted large attachments and chat histories and all the space I make just gets taken up by “Other.” What is Other? Where do I find it? Half my apps don’t work any more, I can’t take photos, the Manage Storage function doesn’t even work properly…

To start with, updating to the latest version of iOS, 15.5, is probably the simplest solution. This will automatically dump a lot of the accumulated "other". What you are seeing is a long-standing issue with iOS, but I've not seen substantial solutions for this from Apple. I usually don't reference outside sources on this forum, but there is a recent article in Macworld Mag that addresses this problem. https://www.macworld.com/article/232651/iphone-other-storage-what-is-it-and-how-do-you-delete-it.html

That article is really helpful. It’s my wife’s phone so I’ll have to wait until she doesn’t need it, but resetting caches (especially for music, podcasts, and web pages) sounds like a good place to start. At the very least it is nice to finally have an explanation of what Other is and how to help manage it.
