I have just uploaded my photos from icloud off my phone onto my Macbook. When I click onto some of the pictures to enlarge I get a grey triangle with an explanation mark in the middle. Can anyone help with this problem, please?

Just a hunch - if your iPhone is taking photos in the Hight Efficiency format HEIF, a Mac with OS X 10.11 will not be able to show them. You would need to upgrade the Mac to macOS 10.13 High Sierra at least, or to convert the images to a more compatible format. See: https://support.apple.com/de-de/HT207022

Or, if you cannot upgrade the Mac to a newer system version, set the camera an your iPhone to take the images in the JPEG format.
