Can a new iPhone not registered to a carrier be used in Jamaica

I received. An iPhone 11 from a friend its new but when I try to set it up it’s saying my sim is not supported, I am in Jamaica and my friend is in the USA how can this be solved. As this one hone is new and not registered to any carrier as yet.

It sounds like your “friend” provided you w/ a carrier-locked phone.

You’ll have to get it unlocked w/ that carrier; and if you’re not their current customer … this will likely be a difficult task.

Perhaps your friend bought it at an Authorized Carrier Reseller and, even if not activated yet, your IMEI device is blocked by that carrier.

In such a situation you need to contact that carrier and ask them to unlock it, if you're eligible.
