This was your post. You claimed that you had separators in Catalina.

You may have had an application that did those, but you don't need one.

The only thing that application did was create a link to a folder.

That application just did what you can do very easy manually - and not, what you have in the Sidebar is NOT an application.

It is just a link to a folder like all the others.

There were no real separators in Catalina, or any version. I do agree it could be a worthy feature, but all we can do is the sort of simulated separators like you have shown.

To actually get this as feature of Finder, all any of us can do is ask Apple using the feedback page, as ASTRO24 wrote in the first reply in this thread.

Thanks but i dont anywhere the word "dock" mentioned.

I am talking about the finder sidebar separators which were available in earlier OSX.

Luckily for me, I did a migration last night from Catalina to Big Sur as I wanted to start from an SSD drive.

It did carry over the sidebar separators. Rather pleased.

They come from an old small app which has been remove from its website in 2007.

But I made sure to keep it working.

There is no user preferences for adding some division /divider in the Finder sidebar other then what is already present.

See Finder Preferences>Sidebar

Is it really necessary...(?)

It sure seems like it just adds clutter having empty folders with "__________" as the folder name like you are showing.

I have to say it as it is bugging me bit.

I know that there are a lot many nerds regarding mac and its OSXs.

[ I just ask the questions trying to find answers if they are to be found]

Why cant anyone write a patch/script to be put inside Terminal to fix that?

Surely for you all, it cannot be that difficult? Or is it?

Some developers must thought about it, surely.

Thanks

They are already in Finder/Apple menu, so why cant they be added to the sidebars?

BTW, how does one get a colourful Finder/Apple menu like in the pic?
In the System preference, Accent colours, nothing change.

Thanks

Those are Menu bar items if that is what you are references in you r screenshot. The numbering system I have no idea what that is suppose to delineate (?)

Every app has a menu bar just like the Finder.

The Apple is on every screen, every desktop and is ubiquitous since day one of Mac

—makes no sense if this is what you are asking about putting in the Finder side bar

I will add you can put nearly any folder/Application in the Finder sidebar by manually dragging it there or hold the Command key and drag..(?) This has always been the case.

I would like someone to write a script in Terminal to implement them in the sidebar too.
If it works for the Finder/Apple menu, surely it must work for the sidebar too.

Thanks
