Why are my contacts photo blurry

I have multiple contacts that are using the automatically shared contact photos on iMessage. But most of the time, when I get the notification that a contact has updated their contact photo and I click on the button to get it, I only get a very blurry and/or pixelated version of the profile picture.

I tried turning off and on again the iPhone, restarting the iMessage app, restarting the contacts app, nothing works.

Does anyone have a clue on what could cause it and what could be a solution?
