Trade in allowance

I have a problem with trading in my old iPad against a new one just purchased in the last few days. I went to Apple website and registered a trade in after getting a quote. I asked in the Leeds branch when collecting my new IPad and was told the amount would be credited to the same card I was using to pay. I received a package to send it back but that says I only get a voucher which is not what I was told in store. Having spoken to and emailed Apple, I am just being passed back and forth between two departments and nobody is interested in resolving the issue. Any suggestions?

1) If you initiated the trade-in during an online purchase from Apple, the trade-in value is credited back to your Credit Card a short period after your device has been returned and accepted by Apple’s trade-in partner.

2) If instead you made your trade-in at an Apple Store during purchase of your new iPad, the trade-in credit is applied immediately against your new purchase.

3) A trade-in initiated after purchase, either on-line or in-store, will result in issue of an Apple Gift Card - to be used against a future purchase with Apple.

Hopefully the three possible scenarios detailed above will provide your answer. The scenario that you describe suggests that (3) above is the situation in which you find yourself - and as such, the information you have received from Apple is entirely correct.
