"Verification Failed" error when trying to erase and reset iPad2
Trying to follow instructions from support.apple.com on "what to do before you sell, give away, or trade in your iPad."
I have already set up my new iPad and all relevant data from the old device has been transferred to the new device.
I want to give the old iPad2 back to Apple to be scrapped. Before I do that, I need to erase it and get it back to factory settings with none of my personal info on it.
In the support article, Step 3 says, "Sign out of iCloud and the iTunes & App Store." Here's where the first problem occurred.
----At Settings > iCloud, I clicked "SIGN OUT" at the bottom of the screen.
----Responded to dialog Delete Account
----Received dialog box to enter Apple ID Password to turn off Find My iPad.
----Entered Apple ID Password, clicked TURN OFF
----Received error dialog VERIFICATION FAILED. THERE WAS AN ERROR CONNECTING TO THE APPLE ID SERVER.
Scrolled back up and noted that "Find My iPad" is still set to ON. I tried to turn it off and received the same error dialog: VERIFICATION FAILED. THERE WAS AN ERROR CONNECTING TO THE APPLE ID SERVER.
Therefore, I can't proceed with erase and reset. Can anyone explain this VERIFICATION ERROR and how to solve it?
