Big Sur 11.6.6 permissions issues

I just upgraded to Big Sur 11.6.6 and now with every .pdf file I am opening in Preview I get told,

"---.pdf couldn't be opened because you don't have permission to view it."

To view or change permissions, select the item in the Finder and choose File>Get Info.

Why has this suddenly happened?

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 11.6

There are 3 or 4 threads open on this all since 11.6.6, regarding both Mail and Outlook ... now this seems bigger than just mail apps but something inherent with the security fixes in 11.6.6 and in particular with Preview ... please file a bug report with Apple (use Feedback Assistant) ... this is a major inconvenience and it needs fixing, but that won't happen unless everyone with this issue takes 2 minutes and files a bug report so the matter percolates to the top :~)

Not sure about Mail but in Outlook )or with just stand alone PDFs) the only workaround seems to be quitting Preview, Word, Excel or whatever app is insisting on permissions, then it will open, but the next one won't unless you first quit the app ...

Monterey will have two more years of security fixes. Big Sur will have another one. At least that would be following the pattern. You will, however, not see bug fixes that just affect the usability of Big Sur. In reality, this set of updates to Big Sur, given that Monterey had already been out, was out of the norm to begin with.

Presumably, if Big Sur is the latest it can run, your computer is a 2014 model or oder. You will have gotten nine years of use out of it, before you have to worry about unplugged security holes. That’s pretty good, if you ask me. I don’t think, Windows users hold on to their laptops for that long. Plus, those don’t have the build quality that Apple systems have had.

My computer is a late 2013 MacBook Pro, 13" retina display, with 16 GB RAM und 1 TB SSD. While it is true that this machine has lived a lot longer than any Windows laptop I ever saw.... it is exactly the reason why I bought it, and why I configured it "premirum". Any MacBook Pro Apple came up with in the meantime came with less connectivity, keyboard flaws, or weird "innovations" like the missing function keys. In short, my machine could run a few years longer...

11.6.7 Not made the blindest difference. what is wrong with Apple. These devices are becoming increasingly frustrating to use. No spell check and unable to open files which basically renders imail utterly useless, but then who needs their emails working?? Apple clearly more interested in sales than retaining customers. This is utterly appauling. It's such basic fundemental stuff. When the fuck are they going to fix it?
