Selecting multiple objects using Command not working in OS Monterey

Is there a fix that will allow selection of multiple (unconnected) lines of text in Pages 11.1 using OS Monterey? The Command key no longer works for this function in Pages or on any other application. (Note: I am NOT using OS X 10.11. I AM using OS X 12.3.1)

This lack of non-contiguous text selection has existed for 8.5 years in Pages v5.0 to v12. You can image that the Pages product team has received a kazillion feedbacks on this limitation — to no resolution. These are user supported communities and the Apple product teams do not participate here, so impossible to know what the Pages product team has planned for the future.

Since Apple is not competing with other word processing vendors on features, you may find that other non-Apple products will serve the non-contiguous text selection need. Two that come to mind are the current MS Word (v16.61), and LibreOffice Writer in the 7.3.3 suite.
