My 15" MacBook Pro went dead as a door nail for the second time. I really can't afford to lose things that aren't on the cloud. Has this happened to anyone else and can you help or give advice?

That would count as decidedly unhelpful. If you can't turn it on be sure you exhausted all the steps in If your Mac doesn't turn on - Apple Support first. It concludes with Get Support which you did, but they should have made a Genius Bar appointment for you.
All Apple authorized service starts with Get Support.

I have and they weren't helpful. They tried to screenshare even though I told them my computer was dead.
Does anyone else's MacBook Pro consistently die?
