I found the culprit. It was a digital clock app I was using. Deleted it and now the battery lasts a day and a half with normal usage.

The iPhone battery will drain, unless it is plugged in and charging. With lots installed, the charge would be slower. As for how fast it would drain the battery, that would depend on the battery health and the volume (sound) you use. Did you back up your iPhone prior to performing the update. If so, restore your iPhone from it. If not, take this as a learning experience, knowing to always create a backup of your device. In doing so, you will have something to restore your iPhone from should anything go wrong after the update.

Do your Part. Inform Apple of this. Apple won't get back to you directly, but the more feedback they receive on this, the more they will know what bugs are occurring and what needs to be fixed.

I have iPhone 12 mini, bought it 2 weeks ago. But not only mij iPhone has this problem, also my watch and iPad. Did a clean install, didn't work. It looks like it is an issue with iCloud. No apps installed on iPhone, just set up with iCloud en battery lasts 4 hours max without doing anything.
I have an iPhone 7 and have the problem too. I found apps running in the background that should not have been. Like for 43 hours even if I hadn’t used the app for weeks. I tried deleting the app, then it did it with another app.
I find restating the iPhone helps temporarily. Waiting for an update to fix this illegal running in background.
I have a battery drain in 15.5 too on iPhone 7. It’s running apps in the background I have not used and background app refresh is off.
first time my iPhone has ever died on me. I’ve done a full restore but no change. Must be ios 15.5 issue.
I also have a battery drain issue with my iPhone 8 Plus since iOS 15.5.
I get about half the daily capacity from a full change.
I examined Battery Health and can not identify any app that uses more than it’s normal power.
The problem must be with the latest update, iOS 15.5.
Apple, please fix this.
Yup it’s draining the battery like crazy. And now my iPhone 8 will only charge when it’s off, and it charges super slow. This update has RUINED my phone!! It’s at 17% now so I have probably 5 minutes to find a miracle fix before it dies and I have to charge it for like 8 hours. iOS 15.5 has destroyed my phone, and it’s so frustrating that we can’t just easily go back to the previous version. Now my phone sucks and the only thing I did wrong was trust apple enough to allow automatic updates.
I don’t have a digital clock app I don’t think. I don’t know how to even start looking for what’s doing this to my phone ever since I got iOS 15.5. It’s so frustrating, and I depend on this phone for SO MANY important things. I don’t know what to do!!!
My iPhone 13 Pro Max iOS 15.5 went down 2% in less than 30 minutes, it used to take like a hour to go down 1%, lol.
No location services, 30 seconds, dark mode & dim wallpaper, no background app refresh, etc. battery health is at 99%.
iOS 15.5 is wiping out my 12 Pro Max in 4 hours. Started at 100% at 8 am this morning, now 18% at 12:45 pm.
