Do any of apples usb chargers shut down when battery is fully charged?
iphones and other modern devices that are rechargeable stop drawn current when their done charging, which is essentially the same as the charger cutting off apart from a bit of transformator loss making the 5volt DC available for when the connected device wishes to begin charging by drawing current once more.

Wow, Manufacturers make automatic chargers for my vehicles & my power tools, But for sensitive & expensive electronics - No??? That's messed up. Clearly motivated by $$$, they don't care how many batterys get ruined so they can sell more product. Not cool. Thanks bunches Apple.. NOT.
Ok, That makes sense. Thank you for clarifying. I do hope it's true. At least with Apple.
The issue came to light with me when one of my ipod type music players, Not Apple, was left on a charger too long by mistake. The battery bulged to the point of popping the case open. Again, it was not apple, but it was a high end player out of warranty 2~3 yrs.. So, after losing this unit, I got to looking at my Apple products, Not wishing for this to happen again. I do try to be conscious of time plugged into charger, but yes I have fallen asleep & forgotten.
I admit to being surprised. I own "automatic" chargers for automotive batteries as well as the power tool battery chargers that taper down to almost nothing when fully charged so as not to cook the batteries. I would think that battery powered electronics would have "something" similar... Hoping my A&K just encountered a freak one time issue.
****, I have an one Ipod classic left that's still playing, altho I do have to keep it plugged in due to battery no longer holding a charge..
Those chargers work that way as they are charging a “dumb” battery. The battery on your A&K did not swell due to overcharging it did so because the battery failed and shorted out. Not uncommon with Lithium Ion batteries.
No
I don’t believe anything ever worked in terms of charging that the charger attempted to be smart, like your average A/C socket it just dispense current
I see. Still learning about Li-on..
Thanks
