Can't Upload .png Photos from Windows PC to iCloud Photos Folder or iCloud.com

I can't seem to upload .png photos from my Windows PC to the iCloud Photos folder or iCloud.com. When I try to move a .png photo to the iCloud Photos folder on my Windows PC, it will move to the folder but it never shows up on my iPhone or on the iCloud.com website. When I try to upload the .png photo directly to iCloud.com, the .png photo doesn't show up at all in the window that pops up to search for the photos to upload. It's almost as if iCloud doesn't support .png photos but I know that isn't the case because I can easily download .png photos on my iPhone with no issues and those photos actually do show up in the iCloud Photos folder on my Windows PC and on the iCloud.com website. Any help with this issue is much appreciated.

Hi DipperTheFolf,

As stated in the article shared earlier, along with you being able to work with PNG files on your iPhone as you stated earlier, it is in fact supported. As such, we've narrowed it down to your Windows PC at this point. Let's continue ruling out some other possible causes:

  1. Have you already tried the other steps already provided to you? This would include trying a new user account, another web browser, and restarting your PC.
  2. What about making sure you have all of the latest Microsoft updates installed, along with testing temporarily disabling Windows Defender to test for the same issue?
  3. Do you have iCloud for Windows installed on your PC, and if yes, what occurs when you try using that to sync photos?

We look forward to hearing about the results from all of the above steps.

Take care!

Hello DipperTheFolf,

To help resolve the issue where .png photo types aren't uploading to iCloud, if you have any security software installed on your PC, dIsable it to see if the photos will upload.

You can also create a new admin user account to test and see if the photos will upload.

Check your iCloud storage to make sure it's not running low and causing this issue:

So apparently that article saying that PNG files are supported is incorrect because I just tried uploading a PNG image to the iCloud website by typing its name directly into the file name field and an error popped up saying that only JPEG files can be uploaded through the website. I find this to be quite annoying because JPEG doesn't support transparency so I'm unable to upload files with transparent backgrounds to iCloud.

It also has something to do with the iCloud website because as I've said I am unable to upload PNG files to the website at all. The website gives me an error saying that only JPEG files can be uploaded. I do have iCloud for Windows installed and when I try adding the PNG files to the iCloud Photos folder, they are added but they seem to be converted to JPEG files as when I view them on my iPhone after uploading them through iCloud for Windows, they appear to have white backgrounds instead of being transparent despite the file format still being PNG.
