Horizontal lines on my new M1 MacBookAir

I saw some other threads but no solution. I'm now getting horizontal stripe lines about 2mm apart fading in and out on my screen. The laptop has never been dropped and no hardware issues and when I stare at it, I see if fading in and out. So I'm assuming this is a hardware issue and it should be covered, even though my AppleCare has expired?
