A 1080 display has a 16:9 aspect ratio.
The Retina display has a 16:10 aspect ratio.
So basic geometry shows that if you fill the HD display, a similar rectangle will appear “letterboxed” in the Retina display. That much is therefore to be expected.
On the other hand a rectangle with 16:10 scaled to appear inside an HD display will appear “pillarboxed” - ie leaving space on the sides.
So the part about not filling one of the screens is as it should be and always has been. That didn’t change with 11.6.6. It is basic geometry.
The one part where you have some control iis on the text size/display resolution. Besides optimized for one of the two displays, there must be some “scaled” options you can experiment with.
The image fills both screens but the MBP image is reduced by approx 10 mm on top and bottom, and the text and images are tiny about 6 pts. If I optimise the retina display, the images and text are double about 24 pts.
Small how?
Does the image fill the external display correctly, but appear scaled down in the internal? And by how much?
If I optimise the retina display, the images and text are double about 24 pts on the external display and the image is reduced left and right by about 35 mm.
