Originally, the themed music played when I played the slideshow. Then I tried to add my own music from iTunes, which I see is not possible. The problem is, now I can't get it to play the theme music again. It's silent when I play the slideshow, even though I have the "Classic" theme checked.

You need to go back to the music section, select "Theme Songs" under music library, and add the relevant theme song to selected music.

You should be able to add music from Itunes if you have purchased it, or ripped it from your own CD's. You can't add music from a subscription/streaming service.
