I cannot load Monterey because I need authorization for the volume on the startup disk? What gives, security is set to full.

I cannot use the apple store, iTunes, or upgrade to Monterey. I checked the security settings and they are set to full. What do I do?

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 11.6

Is this computer enrolled in a Mobile Digital Management Service ( MDM ) and or owned by a Company, Organization or University ?

Review MDM restrictions for Apple devices

If Yes, the MDM Serves manages this device and decides what can be installed or Not Installed on this computer

Okay, I don't know about all of that. What I do know, is that The system preference application kept prompting me to upgrade to Monterey, but wouldn't allow it. I erased the disk, installed, it didn't go past Big Sur with authentication problems. Erased again, followed all of the support instructions, and it worked. App Store, iTunes, and everything else works fine now. So I am happy.

According to the System Preferences it does, and it keeps giving me a warning to upgrade.

System Preferences will not provide the Information to determine if this computer qualifies to run Monterey

About this Mac will provide the Age of the Computer and then the user ( you ) will need to verify this specific computer is Listed as Qualifying.

Evidently I don't have MDM on my computer, it was a gifted MacBook Air, so I don't know all the particulars.

I erased and reinstalled twice, but it has an authentication error

Works, but I cannot use Apple Pay or the App Store, nor install osMonterey update

  • It’s easy to check whether your Mac has an MDM. Simply go to “System Preferences”. If you don’t see a section as “Profiles” or “Profiles & Device Management”, then you don’t have any MDM on your Mac.

Perhaps but must issue caution, If Activation Lock is still enabled by the Person who Gifted the computer to you and has not Removed the Activation Lock from this computer - there could still be troubles ahead for this computer and therefore for the User.

That is, and again, unless you are the person who Put the Activation Lock On then Only you can remove it.

That specific information has never been revealed or confirmed by the User

Suggestion for future questions and only for informational purposes.

Understand, we are all working Remotely from all around the world. Therefore, we do not have the On-Hands experience the User ( you ) has with this computer.

Reliable , accurate, details, context and disclosure of specifics of the computer will really help to pinpoint a possible solution.
