Note that Photos will only work with iPhoto libraries created with iPhoto 9.6 or so. If your old Library was from an earlier iPhoto, you will need to run the iPhoto Library upgrader *before* you move to the new Mac.

Thanks! I should have researched earlier and I would have known they go with the Library. I set up iPhoto when Apple Macs used the old power pc chip. As it was set up for business (using libraries and events) made it nearly impossible to migrate to photos and still keep my sanity. Now that I'm retired, I need to get this Mac upgraded, so I will have to move completely from iPhoto to Photo. Step 1 backing everything up. Step 2 move to Photo. Step 3 hope it all works.
The projects are in the library, so they will go with it.
If you mean books that you have made PDF copies of, they need to be moved manually.
