How can someone explain this battery life, apple support cant

Hello there, im using an Iphone 13 pro. I noticed a few weeks ago getting around 20% battery drops during night (while im sleeping) so i talked to apple support. They ran a few tests and everything looks good remotely but still im getting poor battery life during nights and obviously during day what can i expect with this performance while im not using it. The thing is i got around 12 hours with 2 or 3 hours with screen on. So they asked me to deliver my phone to apple support in my city (only one place here in Cordoba,Argentina). They checked my phone and told me that no fails were detected and they got around 36 hours with screen on playing video. Oh great, i logged in my account , fresh start, and only Photos from icloud were sync(on monday), so yesterday i tested 7 hours with my phone on, no ussage and no apps installed (any) and i got the -20% drop again.

Now this is the worst thing, i turned off around 5pm yesterday my phone, today at 11 am when i turned on the battery dropped from 57 to 19 :), no apps installed only the ones IOs installs by default, no sim card in so no carrier issues. -38% when the phone is turned off and 100% battery condition

I got a 13 pro not an iphone 6 thanks apple.

Apple won’t replace the battery until it reaches 80% capacity.

Hey Chris, thank for your support first. In the other hand im not having any reception because since i got the phone from support this monday i didnt put my sim card in as i said in my first comment, im using a 7 plus as backup, and since today is my daily driver.

About poor reception yes, could be sometimes but that stands in battery details when u check your stats about what and how is draining your battery.

I truly turned of wifi from settings, tho i usually go to sleep around 1 am until 8 am.

Now Apple asked me to get one full cycle 100 to 0 and getting a register of what activity i did during this cycle, so i installed youtube and instagram to use about an hour each and then leave the phone in idle until 0. Then maybe i can try a new Itunes factory reset with any kind of config restored. Maybe ill leave the phone a couple hours in Hello screen, in case my icloud account is jinxed or something, i really dont know what to think.

Edit: i missclicked solved so maybe this issue goes in the depth of this forum.

My only other suggestion, beyond all of Chris0207’s great advise, is to restore to factory settings using a computer once more. BUT when setting it up do not restore a backup or sync to iCloud then use the phone for one week to see if it still drains drastically at night when powered off.

Did you do anything recently, such as turn on iCloud photos?

It would make sense that if you recently turned that on and had a bunch of photos that needed to be uploaded/downloaded and you had a poor wifi connection/speed that maybe it would chew thru the battery pretty good.

Then if you saw the App Store taking a bunch of battery, was that right after a restore? And maybe loading photos again after the restore?

I don't know what to make of dropping > 20% while powered off. That doesn't seem right.

Have you tried leaving your phone plugged in and powered on all night while connected to WiFi? (and probably NOT in lower power mode..)

Maybe do this for a couple of nights?

Some things like to occur at night when the screen is locked and you're connected to WiFi.... it's generally best to leave your phone plugged in overnight.

If you're concerned about notifications waking you at night or something, then turn your phone on silent mode.

The only thing i did just get Photos sync with cloud. That could speak on behalf last 3 days consumption.

I tried even sleeping with the phone in airplane mode,no wifi,no bt and still getting -20% in 7 hours ( glad in dont sleep more)

I already tested in last days (not since this current reset), sleeping with my phone plugged for dismiss any sync lacking and didnt work.

I mean, we can debate all of this behaviour with the phone on, im still doing it with apple support these days. But no one can explain how can i loss 38% of my battery with the phone off, if this was normal every just brand new iphone you get out of the box would be at 0%. if i didnt turned off the phone yesterday maybe today battery would have been at 5% or less, i dont sleep with my phone turned off it was just a litle test. tests tests and more tests.

You'll get no argument from me about losing 38% while powered off being odd.. I don't have any ideas for that. If my phone was powered on and I left it alone all day without touching it I don't think that it would drop 38% even then.

I just wanted to inquire/comment on the things I did. The photos app taking so much background time makes it seem like it could have something to do with draining while the phone is on. But again, draining while powered off, not sure on that one.

One question I have based on your testing.. it would seem that you tend to have poor cellular reception, is that right? (simply based on all your screenshots showing no cellular connectivity)

That can definitely cause battery drain. Your test of leaving in airplane mode all night should alleviate that.

BUT when you say that you had WiFi turned off, how did you turn it off? If you just do it from Control Center, it disconnects the currently connected network until 'tomorrow', which means it may have reconnected to Wi-Fi after midnight and continued to try doing stuff with iCloud photos.

To truly turn off Wi-Fi, you'd need to go to Settings > Wi-Fi and turn off the toggle switch

(Bluetooth acts the same way, so to truly turn that off, Settings > Bluetooth, turn off the toggle switch)

Maybe someone else will chime in with some ideas or suggestions.
