Give this a try: boot into Safe Mode according to How to use safe mode on your Mac and test to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE: Safe Mode boot can take up to 3 - 5 minutes as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

Hey there!

Sorry for the troubles. If the next software update doesn’t fix the problem, in my recent experience, reviving or restoring the firmware will fix the problem:

Revive or restore a Mac with Apple silicon using Apple Configurator - Apple Support

FYI Apple stores and providers can do this if you don’t have the right equipment. This may not be your issue specifically, but hope this helps.

Is the user using the Original Apple Charger and Apple Original Cable ?

Is the Wall Socket functioning ? Has it been tested as giving electricity ?

Batteries are considered Consumable Products. Over time it will degrade to a point where it needs to be replaced. The usage is normal as the capacity will go up and down all the time and never stay always at 100%. Apple Batteries are rated for 1000 Full Battery Cycles and / or 80% Capacity before needing Evaluation or replacement.

For additional reading on Battery and Apple Computers this link may help. About battery health management in Mac notebooks and especially for the M1 and Big Sur  & Monterey If battery charging is paused or on hold on your Mac

Depending on the Age of the computer, some aspects from the above links, may or may not apply to your computer.

A feature introduced into Big Sur & Monterey was to preserve the number of Full Battery Cycles - there was an Algorithm coded into the macOS. It is perfectly Normal for Big Sur , Monterey to Pause / Suspend charging the battery beyond 80% and hold it at that level. One can nudge / over-ride this by clicking the Battery Icon on Desktop Top Bar and allow charging beyond 80%. From observations, it will Pause / Suspend again once reading 90%. Same procedure to over-ride and will charge to 100%

Open OnyX, click on "Maintenance" at the top of the OnyX window, click on Run Tasks on the bottom-right of the window. I left the defaults in place. It should warn you that it will need to reboot the system after completion. While it is running, be aware that your computer will appear to be frozen at time. (Usually the first 25-30% of the progress bar.) Let it be. It will finish shortly and then reboot.

My M1 macbook was always charging through my monitor until 12.4 broke it.

I tried the energy settings reset, onyx and several reboot but that didn't work.

I finally managed to get it working again by using the original power adapter, inserting the monitor and then removing the power adapter. After this the macbook recognised the monitor again (with power delivery).

I haven't tried a reboot so see if this fix sticks.

I think I posted this here before but it bears repeating. Running Onyx absolutely fixed it for me. It's been weeks now that it's stayed fixed. Of course I have no idea what's going on, but it seems perhaps there is some interaction with something in a cache or something that Onyx clears. Before Onyx a reboot would temporarily fix it for a short time, but it would come back. It's obviously not happening for absolutely everyone, so it seems there is some condition for a handful of is that triggers this condition. Hope Onyx helps others.

I've been to the apple store regarding this to be told they could find no issue.

They took my Mac to do a firmware reset, this has not helped as 2 days later the issue has returned.

I have been able to replicate the issue, if my battery goes under 40% the MagSafe will no longer charge the Mac, I will need to use a usb c cable to charge it to full. At this point the Mac will use the MagSafe to keep the Macpowered (green light)
