Cannot control computers using Apple Remote Desktop

Cannot control computers using Apple Remote Desktop, I get a message that says "server unable to read screen message" I am on OSX 12.4 I think it may be a Monterey issue because I can still connect to my old machines. Anyone else encountered this? I can reboot and shutdown, and I have double checked all the settings in Sharing, everything is given full access.

Hello, so it seems that the update to 12.5 has resolved this issue for the most part. everything that you suggested I had tried before posting this.

I ran into a problem with remote management after the 12.4 update. It didn't run into your exact message, but a similar solution may help.

I tried a few things, but it wasn't until I rebooted between turning remote management off and on again that it started to work again. I run a home-server headless and typically control it through remote management. It was a real pain that it stopped working after the update because I had to get a screen and peripherals hooked up to fix it.

  1. I logged into my server directly.
  2. I turned off remote management.
  3. Rebooted.
  4. Turned remote management back on.
  5. Verified before moving it back to its home.

I have this exact same issue. It is affecting 90% of my computers on 12.4/12.5. I deploy Macs with an MDM, my way around this (and this only works on new machines out of the box, or computers that have been wiped and the macOS reinstalled) is to turn on Screen Sharing in System Preferences > Sharing, set it to all users. Then go down to Remote Management, check that box, make sure its set to All Users, then select all the options needed.

If I try to use kickstart via my MDM, I get this error. If I have a machine that has this error, the only way around it (since I cannot find whatever file has these preferences stored to delete it) is to wipe the computer.

I'm on Monterey and have the same issue. Whenever I try to Observe or Control a remote Mac I get the severUnableToReadScreenMessage dialogue. I've tried the turn off/on Remote Management setting on the remote Macs and it works for some but not others, all are M1 Monterey brand new iMacs and Mac Studios. Anyone got a solution? Preferably one I can remote apply via send Unix Command feature?
