When I make a call on my new IPhone11, I expect to hear a sound indicating that the phone being called is ringing. What I hear instead is a weird repeating wave sound. Why is that?? Can anyone explain why this is happening and how to get back to sanity?

Do you hear this wave sound for calls to multiple numbers? When you place the call and hear the wave sound, does anyone answer the call?
Has your region changed recently? We’re not asking where you are, but asking only because the tone you hear when placing a call can change based on region.
We’d also recommend checking with your wireless carrier, unless you’re placing a call using FaceTime or a third-party app, the call would be going through their servers.

Based on what you're describing, you'll want to reach out to your carrier to ensure that everything is working as expected on their end and that you should be able to make calls on their network.

In reply to answer, thanks. The wave sound which replaced expected sound indicating ringing on other end of call occurs on all calls and no one ever answers. It actually sounds like a ring tone although not one I am familiar with. Could I have somehow replaced the normal sound with a ringtone?
Have not changed regions.
Also, IPhone is new and I am not very technical.
