Connecting New Mac Mini to Old Monitor with HDMI

Greetings!

Just got my new Mac Mini and have hit a snag. I can't connect it to my monitor with HDMI. At least not right now.

My set up:

New Mac Mini (with the M1 chip if that matters)

Old Samsung monitor

Old HDMI cable

The cable works for other stuff (DVD player), and I figured it would work for this. So I plugged it into the HDMI port on back of the Mac and the monitor. But it doesn't work.

Could it be that I need a new HDMI cable? I suspect it is a 1.4. Would an older wire simply not work for this? Or am I doing something else wrong? Seems so simple, and I feel like a moron for not knowing how to figure it out. Wanted to ask here before running out to buy a new HDMI cable.

Thanks all!

Daniel
