Macbook Air M1 2020 keeps ejecting ext hard drives randomly

Hi,

I have an issue with my Macbook Air M1 2020, Monterey 12.4 since I bought it.

It randomly ejects my external hard drives randomly (I tried with Sandisk and WD) and then never able to reconnect them back, if I unplug and replug, it doesn't detect them. I have to go to my PC and repair them to be able to make them recognize again by the Macbook (and sometimes not even working)

I have tried to change energy saving settings, it still doesn't work. I updated the latest version of OS, still doesn't work.

The hard drives works properly on my PC.

Can anyone please help me ? The Macbook is brand new. I don't think sending it to repair would fix anything.

Just to help for clues I would get a drive formatted to APFS just to see if that makes a difference. Since Monterey many have had drive issues for various reasons. Im agree expat should be OK. I do not use that format however I have some thumb drives formatted to fat32 and no issues. Double check your cable/adapters. I went through several of them before I got my drives to stop ejecting for no reason.

Thanks, I will try that, even though I have no use of APFS because I want to use .vst and .als files that I can work on both machines. But I can try.

What do I do if it's the cables, i've tried 3 of them, do I send the bill to Apple because they have issues reading cables ? That's really not normal.

USB -C cables are very sensitive to connect unlike the older USB-A cables. Also if you are using a USB-A to USB-C adapter some of those are problematic as well. Be sure you bypass any hub for testing.

Are they formatted to APFS GUID Partition? Are they connected directly to your Mac to through a hub? M1 Mac and Monterey are very sensitive to cable and connections.
