USB-C plug only works in one orientation
Using a USB-C cord to charge an iPad Pro. Inserting connector one way works. Flip it 90 degrees and won't charge. Happens with both old and brand new cord. What gives?

Since this occurs with both the old and new cables, we need the device checked. There might be damage in the charging port.

Hi rreesj,
Thank you for posting in Apple Support Communities! Is this happening with an Apple branded USB-C cable? If not, you should test this with an Apple Branded cable to determine if this continues. Check out how to use USB-C to charge your iPad here: Charge and connect with the USB-C port on your iPad - Apple Support.
Check out additional troubleshooting steps you can take here: If your iPad won't charge - Apple Support.
Hope that helps!
It is an Apple cord and charger. Have been charging this iPad for ages, so general instructions won’t help.
