iPhone 8 goes black screen while at 79% power

Why does my iPhone 8 go to a black screen as soon as it goes below 80% power. Then I can plug it in with a lighting cord and with in a minute the white Apple screen appears and then the regular view comes and I can use it until it "automatically turns itself off." ????
