My wife and I have our own AirPods and share one account. Her pods connect to my phone when she is listening to music on her own phone?

Stop doing this immediately. Each person, regardless of age, needs her/his own, unique Apple ID.


The person acquiring the new Apple ID needs to thoroughly cleanse her/his Apple devices as follows before “moving in” using the new ID.
