Time Machine

What brand of USB thumb drive is competible with Mac OS? I recently used a Lenovo Drive but it failed to formate to Mac version. I post the same question to Sandisk but the service reply said "No sure"

MacBook Air (2020 or later)

A - There appears to be a mixed question.

The Title is Time Machine - ok.

Most reliable and trusted Manufactures USB External Drives with at least 2 1/2 Bigger Drive Capacity than the Drive Capacity of the Internal can be used for Time Machine Backup. Example: Internal Drive Capacity is 1 GB = External Drive Capacity should about 3 GB or bigger.

Now, the External Drive needs to have the same type of USB Connectors as the computer for best performance. Again if the computer has USB-C female connectors the external Drive would need to have USB-C male connectors on the cable.

Secondly, the External Drive when purchased New may have Bundled Software on the drive. This is strongly suggested to Not Use this software. Monterey is very capable to Manage External Drives without Third Party software interfering.

Thirdly, many External Drives are formatted for Microsoft Windows usage and therefore not totally compatible with macOS.

It is best to Reformat the drive as per below image and use the APFS Format with the GUID Scheme Partition Map

This will make the drive ready to use with Time Machine Backup

Lastly - it again strongly suggested, to Dedicate this Entire External Drive ONLY for Time Machine Backup and not other usages
