Right after drag n drop of songs, iTunes says the original file cannot be found

I have a problem that is somewhat annoying. When I import a new album with, let's say 20 songs, by drag and drop into the application, iTunes lists all of the tracks nicely but randomly 1-4 or 5 of the songs cannot be played because iTunes claims it can't find the original file location. They were all imported from the same place, so why do some tracks malfunction while the others work?

Any thoughts on this, anyone?

iMac 27″, macOS 10.12

Hello MK,

If they play upon a right-click then at least you know the MP3s are valid. But it sounds like they are not importing correctly in the first place. If you are importing 20 tracks at a time, instead try doing a couple of tracks at a time.

Use Finder to locate the original file on your hard drive. Right-click the file and choose Open With > iTunes (or Music). What happens?

It opens in iTunes/Music but is not linked to the similar track I had just imported to iTunes/Music. I can of course also relocate all the files from within the app. But why on earth does it loose the link in the first place?

When I open a file in iTunes/Music from the finder, a new track is added to the app interface and it begins playing.

The files are mp3s and of my own creation. I drag the files into the app (to be more precise into the left menu 'library' section.)

Just to be clear, when you say "it opens," do you mean it starts playing correctly?

What is the source and format of the files, and what method are you using to import them?
