Connecting Cinema HD Display 23" to my MacBook Pro (13-inch, M1, 2020, Monterey 12.4)

Hello world,

I'm currently struggling with the connection of my Mac Book and Cinema HD Display.

As another user had put it very aptly,

The image of the desktop background is clearly visible behind any document that I open as if it is slightly transparent and when I close any document, jpg image, pdf or an internet page, there is an outline left on the screen of the closed documents which very slowly disappears after a few minutes. This is surely not a great way to work.

Right now I use this Adapter, which was actually highly recommended by several forums / people. We checked the connection via another adapter (DVI-> Thunderbolt 2) to an older Mac Book, and faced no problems there. So it's either an adapter or Mac Book problem?!

My questions:

  1. Did somebody have the same problem & found a solution?
  2. Could this be a M1 related issue? (Or software?)
  3. Should I buy another DVI --> USB adapter? If yes, which one?
  4. Should I try another way, like DVI --> HDMI --> USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 (<-- is there a difference?)

Thank you so much for your help and all the best,

Saskia
