Safari and overheating

I've had a problem with my iMac fan kicking on because it is getting hot. I'm always running Safari when this happens. Once I switch to Firefox the heat dissipates and the fan stops running. This has been going on for quite some time now when using Safari. Why doesn't Apple fix this issue?

Fan loud with Safari use My iMac's fan is running like crazy lately (maybe last week or so). I'm on macOS 11.4, 2019, 27-inch. It seems like it might be Safari-related, so I quit Safari and a few other apps (like Word, Excel, Notes, and Teams) and the fan has now stopped. I'm not doing anything even remotely intensive on any of these apps, and my iMac feels cool to the touch (front and back) regardless if the fan is running or not. Any ideas about what has changed? Any reports of issues like this with 11.4?

close safari, hold down the shift key and relaunch safari with it held down.

if that does not fix the issue the next step would be reset the SMC and PRAM
