How do I disable Deep Fusion and HDR on iphone SE 3rd Generation?

My new iphone SE 3rd Gen is automatically altering my photos for the worse: brightening them, removing shadows, making them overly even-toned yet sharp. My previous iphone (5) took much better photos. I would never have bought this phone had I known the photos would be so poor and "automatically enhanced." Is there a fix for this?

iPhone SE, iOS 15

Hi Doggfishh,

Deep Fusion is a built-in feature and that can't be disabled in the settings. It's also included on the technical specifications page for your iPhone model here: iPhone SE (3rd generation) - Technical Specifications The quoted details below are from the "Camera" section.

"Camera

  • 12MP Wide camera
  • ƒ/1.8 aperture
  • Digital zoom up to 5x
  • Portrait mode with advanced bokeh and Depth Control
  • Portrait Lighting with six effects (Natural, Studio, Contour, Stage, Stage Mono, High-Key Mono)
  • Optical image stabilization
  • Six‑element lens
  • LED True Tone flash with Slow Sync
  • Panorama (up to 63MP)
  • Sapphire crystal lens cover
  • Autofocus with Focus Pixels
  • Wide color capture for photos and Live Photos
  • Deep Fusion
  • Smart HDR 4 for photos
  • Photographic Styles
  • Advanced red-eye correction
  • Auto image stabilization
  • Burst mode
  • Photo geotagging
  • Image formats captured: HEIF and JPEG"

Salutations Doggfishh,

The following article(s) go over how to change the settings for the Camera app on your device.

You asked about HDR - this can be manually controlled on some models and by default, iPhone will take photos using HDR (for both the rear camera and the front camera) when it’s most effective. On your iPhone in Settings  > Camera are you able to turn Smart HDR on and off? Adjust HDR camera settings on iPhone

Next, let’s take a look at Scene Detection and Lens Correction settings and see if adjusting any of that changes what you’re seeing. Those options are also in Settings > Camera. Change advanced camera settings on iPhone

Thanks.

Hello. Unfortunately, neither of these suggestions is helpful because none of the solutions described in the links applies to iphone SE 3rd Generation 2022. There is nothing I can find under Camera > Settings that adjusts either of these features. I am using ios 15.5, by the way. In my estimation, this is a dumbed-down, overcorrection on the part of Apple which results in worse photos than, for example, the iphone 5S and the iphone SE 1st Generation, both of which did not "correct" my photos in the same way.
