Apple Pencil 2 - Won’t work in top area of iPad

My Apple Pencil 2 stopped working in the 1/4 top area of my screen. It’s like an invisible, horizontal strip. The magnet of the pen seems to snap or skip in this area.

I have done the following steps to try and fix this:

  1. Updated my software
  2. Hard Restart iPad
  3. Turn off Zoom under Accessibility
  4. Changed the nib/tip of the Apple Pencil
  5. Cleaned off screen and apple nib/tip
  6. Unpaired and repaired the pencil
  7. Took the iPad out of the case
  8. Holding the pencil a different way
  9. Drawing on a flat surface
  10. And more…

I will be taking both to an Apple store, but I wanted to start this discussion, because I can’t be the only one! Im upset and frustrated. I’ve only have my iPad and pencil for 7 months…

It isn’t the apps themselves - I’ve tested this in Photoshop, illustrator, procreate and notes. I can draw with my fingers and it doesn’t skip.

No scratches - hasn’t been dropped.

As described, your iPad may itself have a screen fault - in that the Pencil transducer, that interacts with the iPad screen, is not being recognised in the upper region of the screen.

Taking your iPad (and Pencil) to the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) really is your best avenue - as this provides opportunity for the technicians to properly test and assess your iPad and Pencil. If remedy is required, you’ll be in the best possible place to explore your available options.
