Bluetooth car phone speaker selection issue since IOS 15.1 - still there with IOS 15.5 !!!!!!

Since IOS 15.1, this problem has occurred with speaker selection on bluetooth:

Problem has remained with IOS 15.5 !!!

For every call made with Bluetooth after pushing the voice call button:

  1. My number appears in the display - started happening with IOS 15.1
  2. After repeating the name of the requested caller, the display flashes and carries on until it shows the number to be called
  3. No sound can be heard at this point unless you press the sound output button on the car display - first converting to phone speaker and then again to send the sound to the car speakers. The call can then proceed from here.

As others have pointed out, this is a very dangerous activity to do while driving.

The fault is not with the car as it only does this on IOS 15 (all revisions)

On earlier versions of IOS the sound would default (expectedly) to the car speaker. Why on earth would you MUTE the sound as the DEFAULT is beyond comprehension. One has to take one's eyes off the road TWICE in order to get any sound out of the speaker - REDICULOUS !!!!!

This is a bug APPLE has INTRODUCED!!! It is NOT the Car's fault !!!!!

We are sick and tired of waiting for a resolution !!!!

Hi Trish313,

The car was perfectly happy previous to IOS 15. This problem was experienced by numerous others worldwide as was reported in previous posts where the thread is now closed without any resolution. The car is still happy with other iPhones with previous IOS.

Apple car play still works OK and, for now, is the only safe option. It requires the connection of the charging lead to the car as apple-play is not blue-tooth in this vehicle.

Rather than blaming the car manufacturer, get your software gurus to work out what they did to the phone blue tooth connection software to cause this issue. Why not just reinstate the version that worked from IOS 13?

There are no firmware updates for the car; why should there be when this is an Apple issue. Take ownership of it and resolve it please !!!

Just to refresh the problem:

The first change from previous IOS is the display of "My Number" when you press the "Voice Call" button on the steering wheel. (This used to not appear in previous IOS).

After you say who you wish to call, it echoes the name, flashes on and off to the called number. It then does NOT connect the SOUND to either the car speaker or the phone speaker. One then has to press the sound output button on the car display to select

(1) the phone speaker; and then again to select

(2) the car speaker.

This can be very dangerous whilst driving !!!!

How can we ever expect this to be fixed unless you admit there is an issue.

Regards,

Hi Ipadiphoneimacmacbookpro,

Thank you for posting in Apple Support Communities! Does this happen with any other device you try to connect to the car? Are you using CarPlay? You mentioned that this isn't isolated to the car itself, have you confirm there are no firmware updates available? You may need to reach out to your car's manufacturer for steps on how to perform that task.
