How to stop Flex time enabling automatically when recording audio?

Hey folks!

Every time I record a new vocal at the moment I notice that Flex time is immediately enabled for the track once the audio is recorded (set to 'automatic' mode). It does this even if the track has flex time set to "off" before I record the audio.

I tend to prefer using Melodyne (ARA) for all my vocal editing/tuning needs, which is not compatible if Flex time is activated, so at the moment I have to manually disable flex time for each track I've recorded new audio on if I want to then edit the results in Melodyne. It's very frustrating as I tend to have a lot of very large vocal stacks and even when recording small drop-ins I find flex time gets activated again...

So I have two questions:

1) Is there a way to stop Flex becoming activated when new audio is recorded? I looked through the settings but I can't find any magic box to tick to turn this feature off.

2) If this is just how Logic is right now, is there a shortcut or a way to turn off flex time for multiple tracks simultaneously?

Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated! I'm on Catalina 10.15.7 and Logic X 10.6.3

Thanks!

Have you tried changing the Smart Tempo settings?

File > Project Settings > Smart Tempo

Perhaps set the Project Tempo mode to "Keep Project Tempo"

and/or

Set the defaults for Flex & Follow to 'Off"?

Do me a favor and open a new Logic Pro session and create a New Audio Track. Look in the region inspector and under "Audio Defaults" is FLEX enables by chance? If so, every time you create a new Audio Track (by dragging in loop or recording into one), this behavior is inherited from the Audio Default. To change it, simply create a blank Audio Track and disable FLEX and you should be good to go.

Hope this helps,

Eddie G.

Hey, thank you for the reply!

I already have these settings as you describe ("Keep Project Tempo" and default Flex settings are all set to "Off").

The problem happens whenever I record new audio (or drag new audio into a track), it seems to change from the flex setting being "off" to "automatic".

It's very strange, I can't think why it is happening. Does anyone else experience this issue?
