Bought the watch yesterday, followed the steps but was never asked to set up a passcode. Was working ok. The battery died and after recharging it got a message: device locked Unlock iPhone to start using Apple Watch. The problem is that my phone is unlocked :( . Restarted the watch but that didn’t help.

And when I got into the watch app on my phone it says :
Tks. It didn’t work thought. It doesn’t address the situation where the watch is locked and the phone doesn’t allow you to unlock it.Took a picture with my phone so it is obviously unlocked
From a web browser,sign in to iCloud.com with your Apple ID.
Go to Find iPhone.
Click All Devices at the top of the screen.
Click your Apple Watch.
Click Erase [device]. Select Next until the device is erased.
Click Remove from Account.
