iPhone 11 Pro Max Typing Phrases Spontaneously

Frequently when my wife is typing in a message, her iPhone 11 Pro Max takes over and begins typing somewhat random words and phrases, on and on, not stopping until the iPhone is powered off and restarted. My identical phone never does this. Many of the phrases appearing on the screen are composed of related words and seem to have some meaning for brief moments, like snippets of prior texts except that they include words and phrases she is sure she did not ever say. Words are often repeated two or three times. They appear at a steady pace, about the speed a moderately skilled person would type but steadily, with none of the bursts and hesitations I would expect if a person were typing.

I hope someone recognizes this pattern and can tell us what to do about it.

Hi BBToadstool,

Is the predictive text option turned on? You can check with the steps on the guide page here: Use predictive text on iPhone

You can also check any accessibility options that may be enabled. Get started with accessibility features on iPhone

Additionally, there may be an issue with the screen. Test the issue when any accessories such as a protective case and screen protector are removed. Clean the iPhone screen with the steps here, and test. Cleaning your iPhone

Should the issue continue, the article here If the screen isn't working on your iPhone or iPad and text quoted below can help.

"If your screen is too sensitive or responds intermittently to touch

  1. Restart your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Make sure that your screen is clean and free of any debris or water.
  3. Disconnect any Lightning or USB-C accessories. If your screen works after removing an accessory, try using a different outlet, cable, or charger.
  4. Remove any cases or screen protectors.

If part of your screen doesn't respond, responds intermittently, or responds even when it's not touched, contact Apple Support."
