Installing HP Printer drivers with OS 12.4

I've tried all of the suggested workarounds. When installing HPPrinterdriver5.1.dmg I get a message "This update requires macOS version 12.0 or earlier." so the installer will not work. I have also tried the earlier suggestions. I'm trying to install in my wife's brand new 24" iMac M1 chip.

Hi,

Thank you for the information.

Yes, the latest software from HP for the HP LaserJet P2055dn Printer is for macOS 10.12 Sierra. I assume that the HP 5.1.1 Printer Software Update package from Apple was the one that you tested. It is true that the system requirements for this download indicate that macOS 12 is not compatible, but according to some reports, at least a few other HP printers seem to have worked with this package (with earlier Monterey versions) anyway. What I had in mind was to test something like the HP LaserJet P2055 with Duplexer 19.13 driver mentioned in the Printer and scanner drivers for Mac - Apple Support article as an experiment only (software conflicts cannot be ruled out, so it is important to have backup copies of all important files before testing anything). However, if this is what you have tried, please disregard what I just wrote.

Have you also checked whether generic PCL printer software appears under Use: ? Alternatively, could drivers for another (similar) HP laser printer model be found/tested?

Try the open-source Gutenprint print driver.  Check this page to see if your printer is supported:  Gutenprint Supported Printers.

If all else fails you can try using the free version of Pacifist to install the driver in HPPrinterdriver5.1.dmg. Pacifist will run in Monterey and can install the components in the installer package.

That printer is 18 years old (introduced in 2004). It might be time to put it out to pasture.

I just got an HP LaserJet M110w printer from Amazon for $129 to replace my 2035n unit which finally gabe u the ghost. It's a minimal feature printer but is extremely fast and is AirPrint compatible.
