Neither the Studio Display, nor the MacBook Pro have a lightning port, so of course a cable that ends in a lightning connector would not work. If your Studio Display came with one of those, it would have been a mistake.

The Studio Display should have come with a USB-C to USB-C cable, not a USB-C to Lightning one.

Make sure you have extracted the correct cable from the Studio display packaging . It should be a black cable with black terminals.

Both terminals should look the same.

My USB-C to Lightning cable does not fit into any port on the studio design display

I called Apple support and they said my MacBook Pro (2017) should have thunderbolt ports. However, it does not work--the thunderbolt cable from display does not go fully into my MacBook Pro ports and I tried all 4 ports on my computer and even rotated the cable input to see if I had the right orientation. Previous advice from Apple was to buy the USB-C to Lightning cable but Apple support today said that won't work. Need Thunderbolt connection, not Lightning apparently--wrong storm term cable I guess. I just changed from flip phone to Apple 13 ProMax--so you can see I am slow to keep up with technology improvements.

I made an appt. for Apple Store next Tues. to bring my computer and cables in so they can show me what works. I waited over a month to get my Studio Design display and was eager to connect it to my computer. My computer has a small 13inch screen and I really need the larger display.

Thanks for info on USB-C to Lightning cable not being correct cable. I was disappointed that I was incorrectly advised that I needed this cable when I ordered my Studio Design Display.

I do have the black thunderbolt cable that came with my Studio Design Display. It plugs easily at back of the Studio Design monitor in the marked thunderbolt port but it is impossible to fully insert the other end of it into any of the 4 ports on. my MacBook Pro (2017, 13" monitor). I do not see any other cable in the box that the monitor came in, but will look again.

I sure wish I could connect the new monitor up but will have to wait until I go to the Apple Store with my computer and the cables next Tuesday, unless you have more suggestions. It could be operator error on my part, but I tried my best to make connections without damaging cables and ports.
