Why can't I record an Instagram story with my iPad?

hi. i tried to record videos using instagram story camera but it didnt work. i tried to remove then re-install the instagram and first few seconds, it worked but after i quit the instagram app and tried recording again, it didnt work. does this have to do with viruses or else? the day before, i was browsing on safari and this one website kept opening another random websites whenever i clicked on anywhere on the page. there was also a tab about warning about virus but i wasnt sure what to do so i just closed all the tabs.

Well many times the Apple forum is filled with lots of people who know quick fixes outside the normal triage and why we come here for many reasons. I think the credibility was questioned when it was said there is not an iPad insta app which there is whether it is optimized or not and was working just fine until a week or so ago. I have plenty of stupid filter video to prove it. 🤣 Not sure if it was along side the last OS upgrade but I am assuming it is and will try when the new one is released. I guess Tik Tok it is for now😟

Thank you because I only posted on here to let others know I’m having the same frustration. It was about joining other humans and validating their frustration. Our frustrations in general. I understand maybe it’s not Apple. I am a crazy Apple owner and I love the brand, but nothing is perfect.

I understand maybe your tone sounds this way because you reply to a lot of people sharing the same information over and over. This is probably frustrating for you, to repeat yourself. To resort to being blunt and factual, but honey we are complex sloppy humans. Sometimes all we want is validation.

I see you and hear you too. Have a lovely weekend!

Just a guess as to why people might not understand... My iPad Pro and iPhone are both running IOS 15.6. I am looking at the Instagram App listing on my iPad Pro this very moment. Under the heading INFORMATION, subheading Compatibility, are these four words... "Works on this iPad." It is not working properly. If I click the the "Report A Problem" link, it brings me to ... Apple. I have used both devices to record since I joined Instagram. There is a Reels button, there is the record button. The record button just doesn't work. So, bottom line... I have two devices. Both have IOS 15.6. Both have Instagram 245.0. Both devices are listed as compatible with the Instagram app. Thus, one would think it would work. Not being a App developer, I am not able to determine where the problem comes in Apple vs IG. It is either compatible or it's not compatible. It would behoove the keepers to include the caveat... "Not all features are available on tablets" if not all features are available on tablets.

You have iOS 15.6 on your iPhone. You have iPadOS 15.6 on your iPad. They are not exactly the same. If you go to the App Store, you'll see the Instagram App is for iPhone. Not iPhone and iPad. Instagram has to fix this. Apple cannot.

It's high time Instagram made an iPad app. They have chosen not to. That's on them. Contact them and express your wants. They know their app isn't working with recording video on iPad.

No one said you can't have Instagram on your iPad. Many, many do. What you fail to understand is the App is for iPhone and has never been released or optimized for iPad. And it seems Meta, the parent company of Instagram has no known plans to make an iPad version.

You can download just about any iPhone ONLY application to an iPad. It's just not designed for iPad, and cannot be counted on to work the same on iPad as it does on iPhone. And that would because iOS (iPhone) is NOT the same as iPadOS (iPad).

If that doesn't clear this up for you, please let me know what part you don't understand.

hey, i think what lobsterghost1 is trying to say is that the app you showed in the screenshot, was initially made for Phones. (iOS, android, LG, etc.) which is why when you open the app on an iPad, there’s black borders. That’s because the Instagram app was/is not made specifically for an iPad, or any tablet for that matter. You will only see Instagram in a 16:9 screen format. iPhone OS (iOS) is what instagram was specifically made for, not iPadOS (which is what iPads use). Like they said, Instagram unfortunately has no future plans to make an Instagram app for iPads. I use an iPad 9th generation, so I understand the frustration haha. Since Apple can’t do anything about this, you need to contact the people who made the app: Instagram.

Contacting Apple is pointless, they have nothing to do with Instagram, and most likely won’t even see this thread.

Contacting Instagram will probably be selfsame.

Anyways, I had the same problem as everyone else, I couldn’t record any Instagram videos, record any reels, or go live. But now it’s fixed, I’m still trying to figure out how, but now I can record on Instagram using an iPad. I hope everybody else can too.

This is going to sound weird. I had the same problem. When I open IG and click the plus sign, it gives me the option to go live, but then takes me to the camera screen and the only two options were post and story. So I tried recording a video and lo and behold, it would only take pictures. Figuring something was wrong with my camera permissions, I checked those. No problem. But clearly the video function wasn't working. So I downloaded tiktok to my ipad, went on there and recorded a 5 second video, discarded it, then went back to IG. For some reason that jumpstarted the camera and the live option shows up again on IG as it's supposed to. So now when I want to go live on my ipad on IG, I go to Tiktok first and give the camera a jumpstart. It's really weird and I dont understand why IG won't just give us a suitable ipad version. HOpe this helps.

Why can't I record an Instagram story with my iPad?
