I am using a MacBook Pro Os Monterey, 2021 , 16 inch. Just yesterday, while on YouTube... I got that error.

There was a crackling sound and the MacBook restarted itself.

Should I be worried?

I have detached any peripherals.

Would it be ok to recharge it when needed?

Do I need to take it to Apple?

I did start it up in recovery mode.

and now... I am utterly confused. This is my first time encountering such an error.

MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 12.4

I just got my 2021 MBP back from Apple and they replaced the logic board and touch IO board. It seems to have fixed my problems which started with continuous rebooting and ended up with the AP watchdog expired error. It was disappointing to have a $3K laptop die in 10 months but thankfully I added the 3-year AppleCare before my credit card melted.

Well, I punted and dropped off my 2021 MBP at the Apple store and it's being repaired. After spending an entire day with Apple on the phone, we reloaded Monterey but that didn't help. Finally, reformatted the hard drive and reinstalled everything but same problem. My phone support person Shauna was patient and helpful but nothing helped. As I expected, it is apparently a hardware issue and I'm glad I spent the $300+ on AppleCare.

This is a common occurence on these forums, and despite reports since the debut of the M-series chips, seemingly no solution from Apple. I've had at least three tickets with them, and each time they gather logs/info from the system and then 'the engineers' never seem to respond back.

I've received the error doing literally nothing, doing tons of stuff, recording audio, editing video, listening to music, watching online videos, with nothing connected, with a dock and full set of peripherals attached, etc etc.

It's a frustrating and infuriating scenario, and it makes the system unreliable and as a result useless for anything that requires 0% failure risk, such as live streaming, recording live performances, etc.

It's incredibly frustrating, and I'm leaning toward requesting a replacement Macbook 14.
